Thanks for the uploads, I DL'd HL2 Episode 1, work's fine.

"Steam" is just the download manager thing Valve uses to make it harder for people to obtain it illegally. "Non-Steam" just means you dont have to have their STUPID program to start the game every time.
I legally own Half Life 2, and I despise Steam. Nothing is lost going with non-steam.
