Is a real time strategy game, set in the Early Modern (around the 17th century) period of history. The game is based around colony building and resource management on a series of small islands. It includes aspects of exploration, combat, diplomacy and trade. It is set in the same period as Sid Meier's Colonization, but involves more detailed colony management, with no "Old World" politics. Parts, like expansion and movement of resources, are similar to the early Settlers games. 1602 is an economic, rather than combat, orientated strategy game. Players are rarely challenged in battle. The game design is noteworthy for its attempt to implement a 'progressive' AI (Artificial Intelligence). This should mean that the pace of the game changes in response to how quickly players act.

Warcraft 2 battlenet edition

In the game, you are given certain missions to accomplish, whether this be building a town, attacking a target, etc. If you succeed in your mission you win and gain points. If you fail, you lose rank, and must begin the mission over again. Warcraft 2 uses numerous buildings, ships, units, and more. Peasants, which you can train from the town hall, build these structures for you so that you may wage war. Some of the structures include: farms - cause everyone needs to eat, town halls - to train peasants, store gold, and wood, barracks - to train archers and footmen to guard your town, and ship yards - to build ships to wage war, transport your warriors, and carry oil. Of course, there are many, many more buildings in the game but I won't list them all here cause I'll be typing forever.

The game boasts good design and playability. There are high-quality mini-movies incorporated into the game (John Rhys Jones is among the actors featured).

Civilization 3

It’s quite a time since Sid Meier imagined and created Civilization I – the most advanced and complex strategy game ever created. Now we have Civilization 3 in stores. Even more advanced, very rich in options, and finally – with really improved graphicsJ “The Way of Strategy” is still the only game’s passion, and still highly appreciated by players.
Civilization requires sharp decisions from players now. It became really harder to complete the easiest difficulty level. Computer opponents make more warriors and advance faster, therefore I recommend you to start playing from the easiest level to learn multiple improvements and changes. You will feel what I mean on your own skin after first several hundred years have passed!
As always, it’s up to you to decide whether you wish to advance your people to almost god heights, or to battle all neighbors and join their tribes to your nation. It can be probably a similar tribe too, if you've played not smart enough, hehe
Here are some features I consider really great and want to point to:
a) Interface became a bit easier to control your “very very big and very mighty” (repeat 3 times as mantra) Empire J
b) Units can get diseased!
c) Peace can be even more peaceful now - more political deals in your inventory. This adds to the number of possible game endings.


Settlers 3

Control the full cycle of your civilization's evolution, from the initial planning and building of its infrastructure, to the full-blooded conflict of race against race in the quest to expand your power and domination in this strategy title. Before you start conquering your neighbors, however, you’ll first need to create a sustainable economy from the interdependent activities of agriculture, industry and trading. The Settlers III contains three different campaigns: Roman, Egyptian, and Asian. Just like in the preceding games, the goal is to build up an economy. In The Settlers III, however, the player can choose the races he wants to use. Depending on the god they're adoring, the people have different characteristics and skills, and either they’re good at construction or at developing strategies.

expansion features 25 new missions, with 12 for each of its campaigns. There is an Arm bonus mission named "Krogoth Encounter," set during the original game (and thus could technically be considered a "lost mission") during the Galactic War on the metallic world of Core Prime as the Arm was slowly making its way to domination. The level is available only at Hard difficulty and pits the player against experimental Krogoth Kbots.

The 75 new units the expansion pack comes with include seaplanes capable of landing underwater, aqueous metal deposits and structures (such as the floating "Naval-Series" heavy laser turrets and missile turrets), hovercraft, amphibious Kbots, pop-up turrets, and rapid-fire plasma cannons, among many others. It also, aside from its plethora of whole new worlds, has new natural disasters, mainly the unpredictable earthquakes of Temblor, a planet whose only habitable land lies on mountains high above clouds.

The expansion comes with 53 multiplayer maps, featuring all-new environments such as lusch, slate, crystal, urban, and sea-coral. It also fixes various bugs and glitches in the original game.

Black and White


The player takes on the role of a god, ruling over an island populated by various tribes. The player's control over the island is manifested in the Hand, an animated on-screen hand which can move or throw people and objects, tap houses to wake their occupants, cast miracles, and do many other things. Use of the keyboard and buttons in the game is purposely low; to add to the sense of realism, the mouse-controlled hand can perform every function in the game.

Generally speaking, the goal of a level is to gain control over every village on the island. This is accomplished through the performance of impressive acts that will cause the villagers to believe in the player. Villagers can be swayed by everything from helping them with day-to-day tasks to terrorising them with fireballs and lightning storms. Another important element of the gameplay is the player's Creature — a pet of sorts that can be trained to do almost anything, thanks to the game's complex AI, developed by Richard Evans. This Creature is trained by being placed on a leash while the player demonstrates the action the Creature is to learn using the Hand. With time and repetition, it can perform complex functions that will allow it to serve as the player's avatar in the world.

Sim City 3000



There were many changes between SimCity 3000, and its immediate predecessor, SimCity 2000 (SC2K). These changes spanned both the integral city management aspects of the game, as well as its graphical and landscape aspects. These changes gave the game a feel greatly different from that of SC2K.

In a pattern which has continued throughout the SimCity franchise, the number and complexity of city services increased between SC2K and SC3K. The most notable change was that the concept of waste management was introduced in SC3K. In previous versions of SimCity, this aspect had been ignored. However, in SC3K, once a city had a population greater than 1,000, garbage would begin to accumulate and would have to be disposed of at the expense of the city. Farms and agriculture structures were also introduced, appearing on large light industrial zones in a city with low land value, little pollution and a small citywide population.....
Heroes of might and magic 2


Heroes of Might and Magic 2 is, as the title suggests, a sequel to an earlier game in the same ilk; namely, a turn-based strategy game which doesn't run in real-time. You explore maps, visiting special sites and collecting resources, whilst fighting battles in order to win overall control of an area. If you've played battle strategy games on other platforms before then the critical difference between this game and many others is that you can take as long as you like over your moves - like a board game you take it in turns with the computer players (or friends) to move. Whether you like this or not is a personal choice, but it does mean that there are no play-mechanics here that you couldn't simulate with an elaborate board game. It's a dice-based RPG writ large.

The game is fundamentally divided into two sections - exploration and battles. Each turn you have a certain number of moves you can make, and if these moves take you into a position where an enemy is already present then you progress into a battle with them - it's as simple as that. As you move your characters around the screen, journeying on a fixed square grid, you reveal new areas and build up a giant map which scrolls around the screen at your whim. At the start of a level you can see only the area immediately around you, but as you progress more of the land is opened up. On each level your overall aim is usually to locate and defeat specific enemies - generally speaking you must vanquish all enemies and capture their castles.
Heroes of might and magic 3


In this turn-based strategy game you combine the use of strategy, magic and brute force. Venture your way to other towns, interact/fight with other heroes and even cross into the subterranean world to deal with the dregs of humanity (or in this case, the undead). Ship-to-ship combat is another element of the fighting skills you will have to master in order to succeed. You are depended upon to restore honor to a fallen kingdom and re-establish its dominance.

Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos needs little introduction, and neither does Blizzard, the company that created it. The worldwide July 3 release of Warcraft III, which shipped about 5 million copies in its first run, seems like a suitably momentous occasion, given that the game itself is both so highly anticipated and has been such a long time in the making. Considering that many have long since preordered the game and that the remaining copies are likely to fly off the shelves, giving a critique of Warcraft III almost seems like a moot point. It's like trying to convince someone whether or not to go see a movie like Star Wars: Episode II. Fortunately for those who intend to play it no matter what anyone says, they'll find their time with Warcraft III to be very well spent. Sure, Warcraft III isn't a revolutionary departure from the conventions of real-time strategy gaming. But it's as good of an offering in the genre as there's ever been, featuring a superb story, carefully refined gameplay, plenty of depth, the best online multiplayer mode in any real-time strategy game to date, and the excellent production values you'd expect from a Blizzard product.


C&C Sole survivor

Command & Conquer: Sole Survivor is a multiplayer game that allows up to 50 players to compete against each other in a single game. In Sole Survivor, players select a single unit to command trough battles with other players as they engage in a deadly game of hide-and-seek. They can pick up "crates" to enhance their units; crate benefits ranged from increased speed and weapon strength to first aid and stealth capabilities to deadly booby traps that can damage or even destroy your unit. Using a very simple interface, players maneuver their unit around maps, collect power-ups, and attempt to kill the enemy. The units include a wide variety of Nod and GDI weaponry such as recon bikes, artillery, and a variety of infantry and tanks. The ultimate goal of Sole Survivor is to be the last remaining unit on the battlefield.


Empire Earth

The core concept should be familiar to any real-time-strategy fan. Empire Earth has your citizens (called peasants in Age of Empires) gather resources so you can build various buildings and units. You have to gather wood, gold, stone, and food, as in the earlier game, but Empire Earth adds iron to the mix. Food is gathered from various colorful animals dotting the map, wood from forests, and the minerals from deposits scattered around. Gather enough stuff and you can advance through the ages; there are 16 of them here, from humankind's prehistoric past all the way to the future some 200 years hence. At the beginning, you'll be fielding club warriors, and at the end, massive robot tanks. In the middle you'll build archers, knights, infantry, tanks, etc. All told, the game features 20 buildings and some 200 units.



Cossacks European Wars

Cossacks is a strategy game that allows becoming aware of historical events' large scale. So grandiose battles of up to 8000 units may be conducted on single or network game maps. One can carry out lingering city sieges, wage guerilla wars, capture commanding heights and arrange ambushes, deploy landing forces on enemy shores and conduct sea battles.

The game system is arranged to reduce per-unit control and resource micromanagement and to turn to global goals of powerful economy formation, science development, new lands capturing, defending boarders, and, of course, war against you enemies.



Strategic Command 2 Blitzkrieg

Strategic Command 2 rounds up the usual suspects of World War 2 operations. Players will have the chance to blitz through Poland, storm the beaches of Normandy, fight in the freezing forests around Bastogne or the scorching deserts of North Africa. Players can also opt to play through the battles between the Germans and Soviets in Operation Barbarossa. Some of the scenarios, like Market-Garden, are small enough to be completed in the space of an hour. Others, like the early German offenses, can occupy several hours. Players who aren't satisfied with the current offerings, can use the rather extensive editor to create their own scenarios.



Great Battles of WWII: Stalingrad

The plot of the game unfolds during the period of July 1942 - January 1943 and tells the story of one of the most dramatic episodes of World War II. Featuring two detailed campaigns, the game will let the player take command over Wehrmacht and lead the German forces into the city, then switch to the Red Army and liberate the Soviet stronghold from the occupants and obliterate the 6th Army under the command of Gen. Paulus. In contrast to many other RTS games out there, each mission in "Great Battles of World War II: Stalingrad " is created with historical authenticity in mind and with reference to the actual place and time to real events that took place during the war. Besides, the missions are created in such a way that campaigns give an authentic picture of events at the theatre of war operations.


Stronghold: Legends

Homeworld

While the real-time strategy genre suffered from overused ideas and clones upon clones due to overly accessible 2D top-down engines, Relic emerged from the stratosphere with their stellar fully 3D space based RTS Homeworld. It turned out to be one of the most cinematic experiences ever created using amazing music, mind blowing spacescapes, a brilliant storyline and beautifully crafted gameplay. While controls suffered a bit because of the new 3D frontier it was trying to cross, Homeworld deserves its spot on the list and then some for its innovation and insane attention to production value and detail. Who ever thought the emptiness of space could be so atmospheric?

Beasts and Bumpkins

Stripped of your lands and exiled by the king, you must rebuild your empire from scratch with just a handful of peasants at your command. Manage your limited resources carefully to increase the population of your servants and defeat the monstrous minions of the Dark Lord Sabellian terrorizing the countryside.



Army men

Army Men RTS brings your fantasy fights between plastic army guys to life (well, kind of) in a solid real time strategy game.

Your job is to lead Sarge and his band of bazooka men, grenadiers, machine gunners, flame throwers, and plastic military vehicles in a campaign to defeat the evil Tan army. Build bases, use trucks to siphon off plastic and electricity from objects to make men, and build an army fit to defeat the rebels.


Praetorians

At its peak, the Roman Empire encompassed most of Europe and North Africa. Praetorians focuses on military combat between three civilizians: Romans, Barbarians (Gauls, Germanics, Celts) and Egyptians. The only resource that is managed are troops that can be recruited and trained from captured villages. Through fighting, units also become more seasoned, gaining better armor and combat abilities. Deploying chiefs with units provides more formations and special abilities. The single-player story has three intertwined campaigns: one within the Roman Empire, one in Central and Northern Europe, and one in Egypt. Exciting missions include the siege of fortresses, which can be entered by destroying the gates or scaling the walls with ladders and assault towers.



Emperor: the battle for dune

The game that created real-time strategy returns with another take on Frank Herbert's novel, DUNE. Choose one of three houses to control throughout the noble Atreides, the reclusive House Ordos, or the evil House Harkonnen. Each house has its own strengths and liabilities, and each can form alliances with different sub-houses. All of the battles take place on five unique planets, and each is rendered in full 3D. As per usual with the series, the object of the game is to mine as much Melange "spice" as possible, but doing so will require excellent resource management and sharp combat skills


The Battle for Troy
Battle for Troy allows players to quickly engage in cunning attacks and full-scale battles without the rote memorization and hours of trial-and-error typically found in real-time strategy games. Paris, King of Troy, has stolen the heart and soul of Helen, Queen of Sparta. Feel the wrath and fury of a king betrayed as Menelaus rages to return his queen. Now two great legions stand poised on the brink of war. May the Gods be with you as you choose sides in an alliance that will soon drown the city of Troy in a sea of blood, all for the love of a woman. Defend your city and your stolen queen against the bloodthirsty onslaught of the raging Greeks using nine different unit types, and immerse yourself in historic action with two extensive campaigns, each with eight challenging missions.



KKnD 2

The KKND series is set in post-apocalyptic Australia, and the new game, subtitled Krossfire, features three distinct sides. The Survivors are the remnants of those who made it to the nuclear bunkers in time, and boasts some pretty awesome technology. The Evolved were caught topside when the bombs went off, and are consequently mutant freaks who use bizarre animals to attack. Finally, there are the Series 9 agricultural robots who have a collective circuit board loose, and reckon it's payback time.



Warlords 3 Battlecry

The series has always been known for presenting lots and lots of playable races. There are five new races in this sequel, bringing the combined total up to a billion playable races. The humans of old have been split into two distinct political factions this time, the cavalry-heavy Knights and the more generalist-minded Empire. The disease-laden Plaguelords are entirely new, as are the dinosaur-like Ssrathi and the numerous Swarm.

In addition to the interesting philosophical identities, resource requirements, tech trees and unit focus of each race, most also have some unique powers. The new insectoid Swarm are able to drain resources from the mines of other players while the Ssrathi have a giant Sun Temple that defends the area around with massive spells. Add them to the various types of dwarves, elves, orcs, and so forth in the game and you've got a fantasy setting with tremendous variety and richness.




Total Anhillation: Kingdoms

High off their success from Total Annihilation, Cavedog wasted no time in getting back into the game with another real-time strategy game. Even though it has absolutely nothing to do with the original title, they named their new game, set in a fantasy world, Total Annihilation: Kingdoms to tell purchasers that they could expect the same level of excellence from this product as they enjoyed in the company's last release. Unfortunately this just isn't so. While there's no doubt that Kingdoms looks worlds better than Total Annihilation, the developers seem to have forgotten just how important things like unit design, game balance and level concept can be when putting together an RTS.
