As everyone knows, this is THE classic of the Martial arts genre according to the film industry and the general public. Say 'Kung Fu' and most people would reply, 'Bruce Lee'. Say 'Kung Fu film' and I'll bet the answer would be 'Enter the Dragon'. I'm talking about the western world here as I'm sure most eastern folk would answer the latter with one of his other films. Bruce wanted nay, craved a hit movie for the whole world.

Fist of Fury was the first Bruce Lee film I saw and regularly tops the fans' all time favourite list and it's easy to see why. If his firery performance in THE BIG BOSS lit the fuse for us all, then FIST OF FURY was the explosion. This is the movie where Bruce Lee finally got a free reign in demonstarting his high-impact fight choreography and boy, he didn't let anyone down....The film itself is a great leap forward from The Big Boss. From the sets to the costumes, from camera placement to lighting techniques everything in this production has been cranked up several notches. In short, it's a very slick presentation and looks it. Building on an ultra-patriotic theme the director Lo Wei,( probably inadvertantly) created the 20th century's greatest Chinese hero and one of the greatest revenge action flicks of all time.

The Big Boss is the first of the Bruce Lee films and also (naturally) the first release in the dvd series by HKL. A seminal release in 1971 and likewise on this region 2 disc. The Big Boss has always held the number two slot in my 'best of' list. I fondly remember seeing it for the first time on a warm and sunny spring evening back in 1974. Some fans dismiss the film as being cheap - looking, simplistic and perfunctory and I agree to a point as the other films are certainly more polished, but Big Boss works in spite of it's flaws. I think it's more like a pilot film or prototype of the later films, hinting at greater treasures to come but still delivering as a great action thriller in it's own right and certainly the darkest(in terms of killing and deaths)tale in the pack. Without Bruce, who was an unknown quantity in HK films at the time, this film would have probably sunk without trace. Because of him we still celebrate this 24 carat classic 30 years later.

Way Of The Dragon is my personal favourite of the Bruce Lee movies. Although it wasn't the first film to get me hooked on the Little Dragon, it will always be the one that gets a special place in my heart. I often wonder why this one and not the others ? Here I will try to explain it's appeal to me and how the Hong Kong Legends DVD lived up to my expectations.

The movie that Bruce Lee fan's love to hate, Game Of Death. The illegitimate offspring of Raymond Chow and Robert Clouse. As a connesiur of bad films and a liking for being controversial, I'll stick my neck out and say I have a perverse liking for this film. Before you start ringing my Psychiatrist I will try and explain why.Without this movie, we would have NEVER seen ANY of the real Game of Death footage( many set out to find the real film included in this package). Sure, it was only an eleven minute segment edited without the aid of a safety net (i.e. Bruce's own editing notes) by Alan Patillo (UFO, Space 1999 etc.). He was under orders to use as LITTLE of the footage as possible and remove all traces of Bruce's co stars; James Tien and Chieh Yuan. In hindsight he did an admirable but thankless task.The opening/closing credits and John Barry's music give the film a real touch of class and are easily comparable with the best of Maurice Binder's 007 title sequences.
